Digital Power is NOT the "Next Big Thing"

Corona, California, February 26, 2007 – Darnell Group, Inc. recently determined that Digital Power Electronics has entered a new stage in development and can no longer be called: "The Next Big Thing." According to Darnell's latest findings, Digital Power has started to reach price parity with conventional analog solutions. The achievement of price parity is beginning to enable commercial adoption of digital power conversion as the preferred technology for both acdc power supplies and dc-dc converters and this adoption will accelerate in 2008. As price parity is achieved, digital will become the primary growth engine for the power supply industry.

Digital Power Electronics: Current Situational Analysis of OEM Applications, Convert & IC Product Development Trends and Competitive Strategies

Digital power has crossed the chasm. The question is no longer if digital power control and management will be used, nor is it when will digital be used. Instead, the key questions facing the industry today are: What are my competitors doing? What are the emerging digital power architectures? What is the current state of digital power adoption in dc-dc converters, ac-dc power supplies, lighting ballasts and so on? What customers are driving the growing adoption of digital power technologies? What are the pricing trends? What digital features have customers found most valuable? and What is the current state of digital control/management integration?

It is no longer the technology, but the competitive, business and economic environment. Darnell Group’s forthcoming Current Situation Analysis of the digital power electronics market will address these questions and many more.
